My Current Winter Makeup Essentials

I consider myself really lucky that my skin doesn’t change too much throughout the seasons. I don’t suffer from dry skin in the Winter, but it can become slightly more oily during the summer months so a little extra powder helps, especially around my T-zone. The only thing that really changes is my shade of foundation; lighter for winter (unless I’ve tanned, which is more often these days!) darker for summer.

I do switch up my moisturiser, but at the moment I’m using Clinique Dramatically Different Moisturising Gel. I used it absolutely years ago and it did wonders for my skin. I don’t really know why I stopped, I think I just liked trying out something new. It’s not cheap, but good skin care is really important. I really like that it absorbs really quickly into my skin so I’m not hanging around for it to dry before I apply my makeup. It doesn’t smell of anything either which I like. There is a ‘Lotion’ version but this one seems to work better for my skin type.

Next, I use a primer to help whatever products I put on top, adhere too. I’ve been reaching for NYX Angel Veil more so lately and it works well on my skin; it makes my skin feel really smooth and silky. I do like to change my primer depending on my makeup look. Some are illuminating so if I want a really glowy look I’ll use one like that.

I’ve been loving a full coverage foundation the past few weeks. So I’ve been wearing Mac Studio Fix Fluid- NC40. I bought this foundation ages ago but I was matched with a pink undertone rather than yellow, although I loved the formula, it just made me look flushed all the time (pure and simply it was the wrong shade!) I recently picked up the ‘right’ shade and now reach for it most days. The coverage is amazing yet feels so lightweight. For the best results, I apply it with a brush then go over with a damp beauty sponge.

My favourite affordable concealer is still Maybelline Fit Me. It sinks into the skin, blends out flawlessly and doesn’t emphasise my pores and wrinkles like a lot of others do. It’s by far the best drugstore concealer. Great for everyday use. I wear shade 15.

For bronze/contour, I’ve been using Barry M Contour Stick or Soleil Tan De Chanel (featured in my January Favourites) These are quick and easy to blend out as they are creams. I prefer creams as they work into your skin, whereas I find powders sit on my skin. I find I get more of a ‘natural’ look with creams. A duo fibre brush like this Morphe M436 gives the best finish.

To set my face and under eyes, I use my trusted RCMA No Colour Powder. I’ve yet to find a better one. Is so finely milled that you can’t even notice it. For convenience, I transfer some of the powder into a travel size pot so then I can tip some into the lid and I don’t have to get out this big pot. You don’t get a flashback with this powder either.

I don’t always wear blush, but if I do it would more than likely be a coral shade. I love NXY Coraline. It’s really pigmented so go in with a light hand! It gives me a warm peachy flush to my cheeks. It’s matte as well, which I prefer. If you don’t have it I’d highly recommend trying it.

NYX Coraline

For brows, I love my Anastasia Beverly Hills Dip Brow Pomade. It’s so easy to apply and can look natural if you are careful. It’s taken me years to master an ‘instabrow’. I apply it with my Mac 266 brush.

I keep my eyes simple on an average day so I usually just pop any warm brown shadow on to deepen up my crease. I love L’Oreal Super Liner for doing a small wing, It’s easy to apply and stays put without fading or transferring. I also love L’Oreal Telescopic Mascara. I used to hate this mascara because it would transfer and take so long to dry. Since I’ve been priming and setting my eyelids properly I no longer get this problem. It does still take ages to dry but I just use my paddle mirror to speed it up! It’s such a great mascara that I can live with looking like a tit waving a mirror in front of my face!

I have a draw of highlighters; a girl can never have enough! I chose the one depending on how much I want to blind people on that day. Spraying your skin after you’ve applied highlighter with Mac Fix Plus really intensifies it. Also using a liquid highlighter then a powder highlighter on top also makes it ‘pop’. They’ll see you from space! Mac Fix Plus is a makeup kit essential, It’s so versatile. As you can see I’m almost out of it!

A nude lip is pretty much what I opt for probably 4 days of the week. My go-to nude lip would be Mac Stripdown or Mac Spice Lip Liner with Mac Peachstock Lipstick. If I’m wanting something bolder, I grab Kylie Cosmetics ‘Pumpkin’ or Sleek Matte Lipstick in ‘Plum’. I’m obsessed with these two.

Finishing the look I use NXY Dewy Finish Setting Spray. It helps all your products melt together to create a flawless finish. I definitely notice when I haven’t put this on!

I’m really looking forward to Spring when all the peachy shades hit the shelves. Also, I’m excited to see what trends will be new this year!

  1. I don’t use any of these products, but they seem really nice so I’ll check them out.

It’s as good as Urban Decay I think. I’ve used a few others before and I’ve ended up with white dots on my face! Not what you want after spending time doing your makeup 😩

  2. I absolutely love the Maybelline concealer and NYX primer. Two of my faves. I’ve heard amazing things about the Chanel bronzer. One of these days I’ll give in and buy it! 🙄

I heard great things about it too and really wanted to try it, I wasn’t disappointed! I love swirling my brush in it like you would a powder. It’s gorgeous on the skin.
